In progress seven years, the inspiration for Ruth Mayer's "Jerusalem" had its beginning's at the 1998 NY Art Expo. An elderly gentleman visited Ruth
Mayer's exhibition during the 5 day show. He was moved by Ruth's new cityscape "Hong Kong". (exhibited for the first time in New York, after its
unveiling commemorated with the change of sovereignty from Britain to China). The gentleman was so taken with Ruth's work, he said "My name is Nash,
I have never seen anything so beautiful as your city of Hong Kong - please, please, I must say to you, that you Must come to Jerusalem, and Paint this
ancient city". Mr. Nash pressed Ruth "you Must come, you Must come ... to "Jerusalem"... "I will personally host you every where you wish to go",
he was most adamant, "You Must paint Jerusalem" Ms Ruth".
Persuaded by the intensity of his passion and sincerity ... arrangements were made, that Ruth should visit the ancient city of "Jerusalem". With her husband,
Ruth planned an extensive visit to the mideast, to find "Jerusalem". In September 2000 they departed. First stop through the mid east was Dubai United Arab
Emirates, then on to Egypt, and after these tours that provided a depth of history, and regional other worldliness to one who has never been there, and a mix,
the arrival in Tel Aviv, and on to "Jerusalem.
Mr. Nash met them at the airport, and they drove to the old city, winding their way, to the Mount of Olives, where they lived their first week. To look out and
see the old walls, and city gates was an invitation just waiting to be accepted. Nash escorted Ruth through out the old city, and the new, introducing her
to many people of import. Ruth met the Producers of Israeli Television, who invited Ruth to return with her finished work, they would unveil it on television
for the entire region. She was invited to meet with the Consulate General of Belgium and found another flavor of the world presence in the old city. Mr Nash
would then host the artist to meet with the Mayor of Jerusalem, then Mayor, now Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. The Mayor graciously presented the Artist, and
husband with a gift of the city, a Golden Lapel Pin of the Lion of Judah. Then on Sept 28, while Ruth was in her midst of touring and exploring "Jerusalem", an
event began that changed the course of history erupting as the intefada. With gunfire a short distance from her hotel, she watched the fighting from her hotel
balcony, vanquishing the hope for peace that seemed so near, become so far in an instant. On her return home from Israel, and other cities of the mideast, Ruth
was in possession of her vision for the painting to come. Although with the violent reversal of the hopes for peace being the new dominating theme now in
negation, the artist was set to reserve the work for a time in the future, rather than contribute to the conscious renewal of negating energy to further any
cause of the absence of vision being obscured by the darkness that fell.
"Jerusalem" was to have been her first cityscape for the new millennium ... but ... something felt unseen moving within the artist took her to complete first,
her American city, in a compelling vision - New York. Perhaps by some overarching mystical sense of priority necessary to be the leading city in her her first
cityscape of the new millennium ... and that came to past in the most unanticipated, and unexpected of ways, as will come to light as you wander with inspired
spirit through the pages of the history contained herein. Her now famous "I Love New York" completed June 2000, previewed March 2000 at Jacob Javitts Center,
New York, arose to the forefront to become her millennial First City. Jerusalem now must await its turn in time.
(four months before her trip to "Jerusalem").
As Mysteriously as the cause that brought forth the Angel behind the towers in her "I Love New York", and from within and out of it, she was sought out by Vatican
representatives from Rome to commission her to paint Pope John Paul II, and again Jerusalem was to await its own calling in coming. The sequence of paintings
had lined up in a progression that seemed designed by a greater hand, that "Jerusalem" should come to follow after the previous two important works, somehow has
the same mysterious thread binding them together as if Time itself had designated the fullness of the vision to materialize in its unfolding for purposes befitting
things unseen in the sequence of creation.
Somehow an extraordinary story is told in the sleuthing of the mystery of works that reveal bold meaning, only revealed After the completion of the works. The
artist faithfully follows the visions as they are unveiled for her to author the stories with her paint upon her canvas, unveiling our story Her Story, and
History before our eye's, perhaps that we, may see, and choose what it shall be.
Perhaps most impressive was, the love of of so many for the amazing city "Jerusalem". One man deeply inspired by the hand of the Artist, Mr Nash, has been
disabled by his 4th stroke, unable to speak or walk, was taken the message the work of the painting of "Jerusalem" was Finished, and through his pain stricken
earthly body, a light was said to have renewed his force within, and may it be so for all who suffer, a Light of Time.
